Biography

Producer, screenwriter and director, Isabelle Hayeur has written and directed three feature-length fiction films: La bête de foire (1993), Luce-Guilbault Award at RVCQ, The Siameses (1999), presented at the prestigious ICA in London and The Montreal Golem (2004). As an adaptor of stage plays for the cinema, she has also directed about twenty films and videos with choreographers such as Ginette Laurin, Marie Chouinard and Susan Marshall in New York. She signed the experimental documentary Les entartistes, que justice soit fête (2000), then in 2005, the folk singer Richard Desjardins asked her to direct the video for his show Kanasuta which was nominated for Best musical DVD by l’ADISQ. Her latest short film, A Short History of Madness (2014), is competing in several international festivals. The film won at the FIFA the Artv Award, a special mention at the Chicago International Film and Music Festival, and an honorable mention at the San Francisco International Dance Film Festival. In 2020, she co-directed, with Nicole Giguère, the feature documentary Prisons without bars. She is a founding member and President of Réalisatrices Équitables from 2013 to 2019, a militant group that aims to give women equal access with men in the media.
